All Souls is honored to welcome Chaplain Devin (D.S.) Moss, a Humanist Chaplain, award-winning storyteller, and spiritual caregiver whose ministry lives at the intersection of courage, compassion, and human dignity.
Chaplain Moss brings a humanist voice shaped by years of caring for people in some of the most intense and sacred spaces in our country. During his Clinical Pastoral Education residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, he provided daily support in trauma, psychiatric, palliative, and incarcerated units—places where questions of meaning, mortality, and connection are not abstract, but urgent.
In 2023, Moss traveled to Oklahoma to accompany Phillip Hancock, a humanist on death row. Through the final months of Hancock’s life and during his execution, Moss offered presence, steadiness, and moral clarity—not grounded in doctrine, but in deep respect for the inherent worth of every person. His experience with Hancock continues to shape his public ministry and his commitment to justice and compassionate care.
At All Souls, where atheists, agnostics, humanists, and all kinds of seekers gather in beloved community, Chaplain Moss’s message resonates on a spiritual and personal level. His work reflects a core truth of our Unitarian Universalist faith: that every life has meaning, and every person is worthy of dignity.
Beyond chaplaincy, Moss is the creator of The Adventures of Memento Mori, a Webby-, Signal-, and James Beard Award–winning podcast exploring life, death, and how we find meaning together. His storytelling work has partnered with major brands including Nike, Jordan, GM, and iHeartMedia.
On November 30, he will weave together his humanist worldview, his experience accompanying people through fear and loss, and his belief in compassion as a form of justice.
We invite you into what promises to be a powerful, deeply moving Sunday at All Souls.
