“The story of migration is deeply biblical, as is the instruction on how we are, as faithful people, to respond to it – with compassion and goodwill. This should apply even to those who are seeking to restrict immigration, for if we claim that life has dignity, then all life must have dignity,” says Rev. Chris Moore, President of the Board of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry (TMM) and minister of Fellowship Congregational Church UCC.
On Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m., faith leaders and community members from across Tulsa will gather for We Are United! ¡Estamos Unidos!, an interfaith prayer vigil held at All Souls Unitarian Church. Led by Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry (TMM), the event is a public expression of unity and support for our immigrant communities.
"Now is a time for moral courage," says Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister of All Souls Unitarian Church. "Our immigrant neighbors need to know they are not alone. This vigil is our collective voice saying: We see you. We support you. And we will stand with you."
More than a dozen faith traditions will be represented, as clergy and community leaders join in a shared call to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Participating clergy represent: Baptist, Roman Catholic, Disciple of Christ, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Jewish, Quaker, Mennonite, Muslim, Congregational, Unitarian Universalist, Methodist, and Presbyterian traditions, among others. All clergy are encouraged to wear vestments as a visible sign of unity and commitment.
This event is open to all, regardless of background or belief. Organizers hope it will serve as a moment of shared presence—a promise of solidarity from those who are safe to speak out, to those who may not be.
“Immigrants are a critical part of our nation’s heart,” Moore said.
Security will be present to ensure a safe and welcoming space for all.
